Basics Kit for Youth Entering Shelter
When a young person comes to shelter, they are often in crisis. Their past could hold anything from traumatic separation from a parent, to an abusive home, to a childhood without the support children require. When they get to our emergency shelter, it truly is an emergency and they are scared.
You can give these young people a Basics Kit. This will ensure that they have what they need to feel physically comfortable while they need to stay in shelter. It would include:
– Oversize laundry bag
– Water bottle
– Body wash
– Shampoo and Conditioner
– Tampons (with applicator preferred)
– Flip flops for shower
Approximately 200 youth per year in shelter (with approximately 35% identifying as female, and 65% as male). Therefore 130 male kits and 70 female kits would help youth in a housing crisis for a full year.
